Parliamentary hearings of three of six ambassador nominees concludes

KATHMANDU, August 2: Parliamentary hearings of three of the six ambassadors proposed by the government to various diplomatic missions abroad have been completed.

The hearings on the proposed ambassadorial candidates for Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York, Switzerland and France was conducted by the Public Hearings Committee under the Federal Parliament.

During the hearing, Lok Bahadur Thapa, proposed for New York, Ram Prasad Subedi for Switzerland, and Sudhir Bhattarai for France presented their academic credentials, work-related experiences and action-plans.

All three proposed ambassadorial candidates pledged to conduct high-level visits between Nepal and the designated countries or missions.

Furthermore, they rolled out their action-plans to make every possible effort to further strengthen the relations between the two countries, to emphasize economic diplomacy and to take initiatives to attract foreign investment and foreign assistance to Nepal among others.

Earlier, the members of the committee had suggested the proposed candidates to deliver in the interest of the country and people since they would be entrusted to work as the representatives of the country.

Apart from publicizing the national and natural heritages and conventional delivery, they viewed that the proposed candidates should work in a manner that demonstrates new achievements.

The incumbent government had recommended six senior joint-secretaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for various diplomatic missions abroad and sent their names to the Public Hearings Committee for parliamentary hearing.

Hearings on the remaining three proposed ambassadors Ghanashyam Lamsal for Kuwait, Tej Bahadur Chettri for United Arab Emirates and Dhan Bahadur Oli for Thailand would be conducted by the committee on Thursday.
