KATHMANDU, June 27: A parliamentarian has demanded to dissolve the Guthi Sansthan (corporation) which manages, conducts, and coordinates the Guthis (trusts) throughout the country.
Speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources, a lawmaker from the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party Prem Suwal demanded that the Guthi Sansthan be dissolved.
"Local bodies should be given rights to preserve the cultural heritages including Guthis instead of Guthi Sansthan," he said.
He also drew the attention of the government to dissolve the Nepal Trust, a body that manages the properties of the former royals. "The works presently being carried out by the Nepal Trust can be also given to the local bodies," he said.
