The labor, transport, industry, commerce and supplies committee under the legislature-parliament also decided to monitor the implementation of its directive after a week. [break]
“We have asked the KMC to act as per the rules,” Sabita Basnet Adhikari, coordinator of the committee, told Republica. “And, the rules do not allow vehicle parking on blacktopped roads.”
However, none of any acts, regulations or rules clearly prohibits vehicle parking on blacktopped roads.
“Although our acts and rules are silent, parking on roads is not allowed anywhere in the world,” Ganesh Raj Rai, Chief of Metropolitan Police Division, says. “We do not need a particular act or rule to prohibit parking on road.”
Asked if the KMC has any plan up its sleeve to remove vehicle parking from all blacktopped roads, the KMC spokesperson Gyanendra Karki said, “The parliamentary committee´s directive is to properly manage haphazard parking on roads. We do not even need a week for this.”
Karki said, “As far as proper management of parking is concerned, we will chalk out a necessary plan in coordination with all the concerned government agencies.”
The parliamentary committee´s decision comes amidst widespread complaints of messy parking space on roads causing traffic jams.
