CHITWAN, May 2: The Chitwan National Park has decided to keep a record of the state and number of rhinos within the park. The record-keeping was envisioned to counter the rise in poaching within the park area, said Narendraman Babu Pradhan, warden of the park.

According to Pradhan, previously the records were kept only in a interval of five years but since that was not enough to keep track of the rhinos, the daily data keeping is being introduced.

The new record-keeping will include grazing space, behavior patterns, water sources, eating patterns and living space of the rhinos along with the number of rhinos. The record-keeping is to officially begin from May 15 and will deploy park officers stationed in 27 posts within the park by separating them into five blocks.
