KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Nepal's para-taekwondo player Palesha Govardhan has entered the quarter-final round in the Paris Paralympics.

She defeated Venezuela's Valeria Morales, 31-0, in a game held in Paris, France on Friday. Palesha has become victorious in the under-57 Kg in the k-44 category in the first round. She will encounter Myara Sylvana Fernandez of Brazil in the quarter-final. Fernandez has entered into the quarter-final directly through a bye.

Palesha had clinched a gold medal in the Asian qualifier of the Paralympics held in China in March and booked a spot to the Paris Paralympics. She is the first Nepali para-taekwondo player to play in the Paralympics.

Palesha had won a bronze medal in the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China last year.

Before this, Nepal's Bharat Singh Mahata was defeated, 3 against 19 points, by Mitsuya Tanaka of Japan in the under 58-Kg in the K-44 category of taekwondo in the Paris Paralympics on Thursday. Mahata was selected for the Paris Paralympics through a wild card entry.
