KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Former crown prince Paras Shah has still remained unconscious on Wednesday morning in a Bangkok hospital where he was rushed to after he suffered a heart attack Tuesday evening.
The attending doctors have, however, described Paras´s condition as ´stable´ and said there is a gradual improvement in his health condition compared to Wednesday. He has undergone CT scan and cardiac MRI tests today. Talking to Nagariknews, Nepal´s acting ambassador to Thailand Dornath Aryal said, " The CT scan report shows there is no problem." He added,"His cardiac MRI report is yet to come."
Paras, 42, was taken to Samitivei Hospital in the Thai capital after he suffered a heart attack at 8 pm Nepali time. “Recently he is displaying some movements of eyelashes. It seems he is regaining his consciousness,” a source said quoting a senior attending doctor who was not allowed to speak to the media. [break]
He was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but as there was no improvement in his health condition, the doctors moved him to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU). Paras has been staying in Bangkok with his Thai girl friend Kannika Chaisan and a few of his aides. His girl friend rushed him to hospital after he had a heart attack.
The attending doctors at the hospital had asked Paras’s aides to inform his family about his condition and subsequently the Nepali community in Bangkok relayed the information to his family back in Nepal.
Earlier in September 2007, Shah was admitted to the Norvic hospital in Kathmandu after he suffered a mild heart attack. In November last year, Paras was arrested in Thailand in possession of 3.4 gram of marijuana and later released on bail. After that, he was again arrested after he vandalized his rented apartment.
Parents, wife not visiting Paras
Unlike said earlier, Paras´s wife and former crown princess Himani was not part of the team of family members who left for Bangkok this afternoon to see him. His sister Prerana Singh was among the five family members flying to Bangkok via a Thai Airway flight.
Also his parents former king Gyanendra and former queen Komal were not in the visiting team. Himani stated that she had to stay back as her daughter Kriti was admitted to Norvic Hospital last evening after she had fallen ill.
MRI to decide further treatment
Speaking with BBC Radio Service on Wednesday, Sunil Khadka, General Secretary of NRN-Thailand, said that doctors will decide on further treatment after MRI test. "The heart needs to be stable for MRI test. The doctors will undergo test once the heart beats are stable," Khadka said.
Khadka also refuted the reports that Shah was profusely bleeding from his nose. "It has been misreported. He didn´t suffer from nose bleeding."
