KATHMANDU
With the national drama festival creating a good audience response from the day of the inauguration, the festival is proving to be a platform to showcase the collaboration of music and drama from diverse parts of Nepal. The drama festival kicked off on Monday at Sarwanaam Theatre, Kalikasthan.
Embrace Solitude
Nepal Academy of Music and Drama organized the seven-day drama festival. And the drama ‘Pampaphul’ was staged by Karnali Theatre Kalakunja, Mugu, as the opening drama for the festival.
The music and attire used in the drama gave the audiences some idea about the culture of Karnali and this led the audience to get into the flow of drama effortlessly. The methodical acting of the artists got people immersed in the drama. Despite the odds, the central character of the drama played a great role in not letting the audience lose their interest.
“The drama was good but I felt the ending a bit lengthened. Artists, scriptwriter and the director have done a great job,” said Suresh Sitaula, a local from Ghattekulo who had come to watch the drama after his office hours.
The drama in gist is about the adversity of money that blinds a person in such a way that he cannot differentiate between the wrong from right. The actors have expressed this feeling of living in solitude in a powerful manner.
As the drama was focused on collaborating music and performance, the dark vibes of the drama were soothed by the soulful music.
“I along with my team tried our best to meet up to the satisfaction of our audience. The main purpose of the drama was to aware more people about the negative aspect of having wealth. Also, this drama is scripted based on the folk tales our students heard from the grandparents back at Karnali,” said Hira Bijuli Nepali theatre artist, filmmaker, and director of the program.
As for the festival, new dramas from diverse places of Nepal will be staged every day till June 23. It is a good opportunity to watch and learn about the culture of different districts of Nepal to flourish the bonding of brotherhood and sisterhood.
