KATHMANDU, April 12: Locals in the Ason area in the capital city Kathmandu celebrated the annual chariot festival of Pahan Charhe amid fanfare on Monday.
Pahan Charhe is a three-day festival of the Newar community that begins a day before Ghode Jatra. Pahan Charhe means inviting guests in Newari Language.
On the occasion, eight goddesses at different Shakti Peethas (power centers) including Kankeshwori, Bhadrakali and Mahankal are said to be activated through tantric rites. A feast begins in Ason where chariots collide with each other beside the Annapurna temple. It is regarded as a symbol of meeting sisters.
