PADT moves apex court

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) moved the Supreme Court on Monday with a writ petition demanding nullification of the apex court´s interim order issued on Friday that barred new priests from offering worships at the Pashupatinath Temple.



In the writ petition, PADT has argued that the appointment of the new priests was done as per the power delegated by the Prime Minister to the PADT Secretariat.



On Thursday, the apex court, acting on a public interest litigation, ordered the government and PADT to allow the old priests to continue their job at the temple and bar the new priests from offering worship until the court decides the constitutionality of the appointment of the new priests.



Hindu activists and local Bhandaris of the Pashupatinath Temple have been protesting against the appointment.
