National Games was held in Dhanghadi and Mahendranagar of the far-western region from February 26 to March 4. The government had allocated Rs 220 million for the games. [break]
Local committee of 11 political parties other than the UCPN (Maoist) had filed complaints against NSC and MoYS for irregularities during the games. PAC ordered an inquiry into the Games following reports that the infrastructure built for the Games were of poor quality and had started to collapse.
PAC issued such a directive after NSC and MoYS submitted details of expenditure. NSC had distributed around Rs 40 million in advance for the conduct of tournament.
Lawmakers on the committee have expressed displeasure over the construction of poor physical infrastructure and demanded an inquiry committee to probe irregularties. PAC Chairman Ram Krishna Yadav assured that a sub-committee would be formed to inspect the sites.
NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama claimed that he was working to expand sports in schools and remote areas.
MoYS Secretary Sushil Ghimire said the ministry had already formed committee to settle arrears following complaints of irregularities before the Games began.
Member Secretary Lama refuted allegations of irregularities in the Games. Lama also blamed the media for spreading false rumors. He also claimed that he has not recruited even a single employee after his appointment at NSC and said he was ready to face punishment if found guilty.
