A delegation comprising of PABSON´s President Bhoj Bahadur Shah, Senior Vice President Laxya Bahadur KC, and General Secretary T. R. Dhakal, among others, submitted the memorandum to PM Dahal through his Personal Secretary B. K. Shrestha at the latter´s office in Singh Durbar.
Earlier, about 300 school operators had organized a rally from PABSON´s Central Office at Dillibazar to Singh Durbar´s southern gate. They also staged a half hour sit-in near the gate.
PABSON has asked the government to guarantee stability, continuity and security of private schools, scrap the 5 percent education service tax and formulate a Comprehensive Institutional School Education Act. It also asked to povide appropriate compensation for the conflict-hit private schools and bring an immediate end to the interference made against private schools by the Internal Revenue Department.
Earlier, PABSON´s Seventh National Convention that concluded on Monday had decided to shut down all private academic institutions on March 9 and 10 if the government remained adamant in its stance.
PABSON alleged in the memorandum that the 5 percent education service tax was imposed against an assurance made by the Prime Minister.
Talking to myrepublica.com, PABSON President Bhoj Bahadur Shah said it will be forced to unveil stringent protest programs if the government failed to meet their demands by the deadline.
Receiving the memorandum, the PM´s Personal Secretary Shrestha said he would apprise Prime Minister of their concerns. He also made the assurance to incorporate the concerns of private schools while formulating an education policy in the future.
