TULSIPUR, Oct 21: More than 700 freed kamaiyas in Dang district have been provided with land plots for constructing houses.
The Freed Kamaiya Society Dang stated that 705 out of the 1,426 people who have been issued with the freed-kamaiya identity cards have been given land and the land-ownership papers.
However, Society president Hari Chandra Chaudhari said that 17 of those who have got land-ownership papers have complained they have not been given the land plot. He said this is because the government provided them the ownership papers of disputed land plots.
Chaudhari said still 3,365 freed kamaiyas are deprived of identity cards and land-ownership certificates in Dang. He rued at what he called the very slow pace of freed kamaiya rehabilitation programme in Dang district. RSS
