KATHMANDU, Feb 9: Police on Monday afternoon arrested over 115 police and army deserters from near the District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu.

They are currently detained at Mahendra Police Club, Bhrikutimandap. According to Police, the agitating former police and armymen were arrested as they were obstructing the road to the DAO in Babarmahal. They also clashed with police personnel on duty.

Superintendent of Police Nawa Raj Silwal, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, said they will be released later in the evening.

The protestors, who left their army and police jobs during Maoist insurgency, have been demanding reinstatement in their former jobs.

On Sunday evening, they had staged a torch rally in Thapathali area but postponed their protests after senior police officers assured them of a meeting with Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam.

Home minister’s press coordinator Bishwa Mani Subedi said there is no chance of home minister meeting the protestors Monday.
