Acharya said he along with Bhim Bahadur Tamang decided to field candidacies for the post of the party president and general secretary, respectively, out of a belief that both Sushil Koirala and Sher Bahadur Deuba should give the party´s leadership to new generation leaders. [break]
“I requested both Sushlji and Deubaji to retire and give leadership to the younger generation,” he told media persons in Pokhara. He also said that he ran against late Girija Prasad Koirala during the 11th general convention out of this same belief.
“I found that mine and Bhim Bahadur´s views on practically all issues converge,” said Acharya, giving reason why he did not file candidacy for the post of party president. “I thought that it would not be good to compete for the same post when a person holding similar views has already stood for it. I have instead filed candidacy for the party´s most powerful post of general secretary.”
Acharya also told media persons that they have already prepared a draft as to how to steer the party ahead if they won in the general convention. He added that they have not publicized their plan as it would be too ambitious to publicize such draft before the convention and election results.
On the occasion, Acharya also alleged that UML was chiefly to be blamed for the current political deadlock saying the decision to remain neutral in the vote for prime minister is wrong. “The character of the UML is against parliamentary system,” he added.
