KATHMANDU, Dec 28: The House session remained affected today following the obstruction from the political parties in the opposition.


The opposition parties including the main CPN (UML) continue to obstruct the House proceedings since the registration of the constitution amendment bill on November 29.


Speaker Onsari Gharti summoned the meeting for 15:00 pm, but with the Speaker announcing the commencement of the meeting, the opposition lawmakers stood up from their respective seats as a gesture of their protest of the House session. Following this, the Speaker gave time to Nepal Pariwar Dal lawmaker Eknath Dhakal to put his views who called on the government to withdraw the bill to what he argued create atmosphere conducive for forging a consensus. He said they (opposition parties) would continue the obstruction in the House until the bill is pulled back.

In her response to Dhakal's views, the Speaker, recalling the promulgation of constitution of a Federal Democratic Republic Nepal on the basis of political consensus and collaboration, urged the parties to help the House resume its business.


The Parliament is the venue for putting the people's voices, she said, urging the dissenting parties to lend support to the House resume its business and take a decision in the interests of the people.


The opposition lawmakers left their seats for around six minutes in course of obstructing the today's House session.


The constitution amendment proposal incorporates the issues relating to fresh demarcation of boundaries of some provinces, language, citizenship and proportional representation in the National Assembly.


Agenda for today's meeting


In the meeting of the Legislature Parliament today, Minister for Law, Justice and Federal Affairs Ajay Shankar Nayak was scheduled to present the Nepal Constitution's second amendment bill-2073 BS. Likewise, discussion on the impeachment motion against Chief (suspended) of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lokman Singh Karki, was in the agenda of today's meeting.


Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi was to present the Local Level Election Bill-2073 BS and Election Crime and Punishment-2073 BS before the house.


The next meeting of the Legislature-Parliament has been scheduled 13:00 am tomorrow. RSS
