“We did not have any choice but to divert all vehicles away from Khula Manch area,” said Roshan Thapa, Media Officer at Kathmandu Traffic Police Division (KMTPD). “People suffered as political parties took out protest march in the streets.”
According to Thapa, altogether 235 traffic police personnel had been deployed to manage vehicular movement on Friday. “Since major roads in the core area of Kathmandu were blocked, people had to suffer,” said Thapa.
General Secretary of National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs (NFNTE) Dol Nath Khanal said public vehicles and passengers suffered the most.
“Our business is hit by such traffic jams,” said Khanal. “Political parties should always keep in mind the problems common people face due to such rallies.”
