KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Lawmakers have demanded that the Prime Minister’s statements on border issues be corrected, with the earlier recorded statements removed from the parliament’s archives.

As today’s session of the lower house commenced, lawmakers from opposition parties stood from their respective seats in protest, calling for the deletion of the PM’s “controversial” statements on border matters.

The lawmakers argued that the Prime Minister’s statement made before Parliament on May 31 has yet to be clarified and, therefore, should be corrected.

They also demanded that the May 31 statements be withdrawn from the parliamentary records.

Bharat Kumar Swar of the Nepali Congress, Chandeshwor Mandal of the CPN-UML, Bharat Giri of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Gopal Sharma of the Nepali Communist Party were among those who put forward their views on the matter.

Mandal also asked the government to take effective measures to address inflation, artificial shortages of goods, issues concerning landless people, and passport and electricity tariff issues. He also called on the government to ensure a fair investigation into the incidents in Sunsari and Siraha.

Shram Sanskriti Party Parliamentary Party leader Harka Raj Rai also urged the Prime Minister to attend Parliament and address the concerns raised by lawmakers.

Meanwhile, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Indira Rana Magar said the words expressed by Shram Sanskriti Party leader Rai, which she described as unexpected, should be withdrawn from the parliamentary records.
