One more falls prey to kala-azar in Jhapa

BHADRAPUR, July 18: An elderly person died of kala-azar in Jhapa a few days ago, taking the kala-azar death toll to four in the district in the last fiscal year. Health officials said the latest victim was Dhan Bahadur Majhi (74) of Dharampur-8 who died while being treated in Dharan.



Earlier, Dhan Bahadur BK (53) of Kohabara, Shyam Lal Madi (48) of Pathamari and Somai Murmu of Dharampur had died of the disease.



Officials said a total of 73 persons were infected with the disease last year and 13 VDCs were affected. Meanwhile, health workers have completed a campaign to spray pesticides against mosquitoes in the villages affected by the disease with a view to control the spread of the disease.
