GORKHA, Jan 8: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has accused UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli of holding the parliament hostage by not allowing it to function smoothly.

“UML has tried to cripple the parliament. Attempts are being made to establish that the parliamentary system will not work,” Thapa said at a cadres training program organized in Gorkha on Friday. “We are the party that runs the government. If we have to bow down in some places, we will bow down. We have to be polite about running the parliament. The parliamentarian should speak in the parliament, not in chowk and chautarui” He said that it was time for the NC to take care of the UML's mess when it was in the government.

General Secretary Thapa said that the NC should take a tough decision to get the court out of the current predicament. He said that the situation should be normalized through dialogue within the court, otherwise the NC may have to take a tough decision. He further added that if the Chief Justice cannot run the court smoothly, he should resign from his post.

Thapa also said the MCC was being discussed at the time when Baburam Bhattarai was the prime minister and then the communist-led government had reached an agreement. “Many people say that MCC is for the benefits of NC. However, we should talk about the previous agreements and explain them to the people," he said.

NC Gorkha President Nanda Prasad Neupane, Central Member Surendra Raj Pandey, Chinakaji Shrestha, Abdul Satar, National Assembly candidate Kamala Pant, Congress Gandaki Province General Secretary Kiran Babu Shrestha and others were present in the program.
