KATHMANDU, Feb 25: The government appointed Sharad Ojha as the Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA). The Cabinet meeting on Monday decided to appoint Ojha.
Ojha secured the position through an open competition.
The Chairman Recommendation Committee, led by the Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Prof. Dr Shiva Raj Adhikari, recommended three candidates, including Ojha.
According to a minister, the government decided to appoint Ojha as the chairman among the three recommended candidates.

The Chairman Selection Committee of the NIA had recommended the names of former Secretary of the Government of Nepal Ramsharan Pudasaini, Sharad Ojha, and Dr. Damodar Basnet.
Ojha's appointment has stirred the insurance sector. The NIA, now under youthful leadership, faces the challenge of addressing the weaknesses of previous leadership and expanding the authority's branches.
Ojha, who hailed from Krishnapur-08, Kanchanpur, has actively worked in journalism for many years. The 33-year-old has gained experience at a high professional level in communications, advocacy, and the corporate sector.
He brings 12 years of experience in various fields. In addition to his legal career, he is a lecturer at a management college. He has also served as an expert for the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce.
Furthermore, he played a role in creating the Tourism Policy 2081 and worked as a policy and legal advisor. He holds a Master's degree in Management from Tribhuvan University, a Bachelor's degree in Law, and a Bachelor's degree in Management from Pokhara University.
He has worked as an economic journalist in various media outlets, including as a Senior Manager and Special Correspondent at Clickmandu.com. He has also contributed to Himal Khabar Patrika, Bizmandu, Nepali Times, Desh Sanchar Online, and Trinity Exim, as well as Varun Beverage, the company that produces and distributes Pepsi in Nepal.
Additionally, he has taught business environment, international trade, and entrepreneurship at Apex College, Kathmandu College, Imperial College, Saim College, and Business Nepal. He has also taught tourism policy and planning at the Nepal Tourism and Hotel Management Institute (NATHM).
Ojha has developed expertise in professional law, financial policy, monetary policy, revenue administration, and economic analysis.
