CHITWAN, Sept 5: Chief of Statistics Office, Chitwan, Yagyamurti Bhandari has been arrested on charge of raping a lady office assistant for three years.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Rameshwor Karki of District Police Office, Chitwan, said Bhandari was arrested based on a complaint filed by the survivor's brother.
Police have advanced a probe into the case by taking approval from the District Court for Bhandari's stay in custody.
The woman is receiving treatment in the ICU bed of the Bharatpur Hospital.
The woman was referred to the hospital following excessive bleeding after taking the abortion service in a clinic.
The issue came to the public notice after the rape survivor's health deteriorated critically after getting abortion for the four-month fetus. The case was revealed as her kin did not turn up to the hospital after the clinic's doctors rushed her to the hospital.
Bhandari, 44, is an officer-level government employee from Sunwal Municipality-12 in Nawalparasi Paschim.
