The Royal crown has been brought into public display 10 years after Gyanendra Shah abdicated the throne on June 11, 2008. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli unveiled the crown amid a special ceremony at Narayanhiti Royal palace that was turned into a museum in 2008. The crown is placed under seven level security and will be open for public display from October 22.
Indian police rescued 21 child workers from Nepal and Bihar, eight of whom are Nepali, in a raid in Mumbai. The police, following a joint operation with NGO Pratham, arrested five persons who had smuggled the children to Mumbai to push them into child labour while promising their parents the good life. The rescued children are between 13 and 16 years old. Those arrested are identified as Mohammad Sadiq Hasan Mansuri, a resident of Darbhanga; Sukeshwar Raut, a resident of Shahwazpur; Eklakh Amir Hasan, a resident of Darbhang; Jafar Hafiz Shaikh, a resident of Darbhanga; and Abdul Gani Shaikh, a resident of Motihari.
Nepal Oil Corporation has said that there won't be any shortage of petroleum products during the Dashain festival. Thankot depot has said that it has already distributed oil to all the oil storages in the capital to meet the demands of the consumers throughout the festival. The demand of petroleum products has gone down due to the people going back to their villages since the last week.
A local resident Chandra Khadka from Musikot municipality-10 has thrashed sub-inspector Bhakta Bahadur Rawal. Police have arrested and charged Khadka, younger brother of a ward member under Public Offence. The police have also turned a deaf ear to plea from local political leaders for reconciliation.
More than 800 child recruits - 40% of them aged 15 or younger - have been set free by a militia fighting against Boko Haram in Nigeria. It is the first time the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), based in the city of Maiduguri, has formally released children since it promised last year to end the practice. The UN children's agency said the children were among 1175 boys and 294 girls who had been identified as being associated with the CJTF in Maiduguri. Hundreds of children have been kidnapped and recruited, scores of teachers killed and over 1400 schools damaged or destroyed in the ongoing insurgency by Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria.
French Open champion Simona Halep will finish the year as women’s world number one for the second season in a row, the WTA said on Monday. The 27-year-old Romanian beat Sloane Stephens at Roland Garros to win her maiden Grand Slam title in June and will have spent 40 weeks at the top of the rankings by the end of the season.
