INARUWA (SUNSARI), May 5: The number of both domestic and international tourists visiting the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, known for its arna (wild buffalo) and bird species, has increased.
This year, the reserve has seen a rise in visitor numbers compared to previous years. From mid-July 2024 to mid-April 2025, 8,415 domestic tourists, 66 from SAARC countries, and 210 foreign tourists have visited the reserve, according to reserve conservation officer Bhupendra Sada Yadav.
Population of wild buffaloes increases to 441 in Koshi Tappu
Yadav noted that the reserve collected Rs 2,519,166 in revenue from tourism. Senior Conservation Officer Bhupendra Prasad Yadav highlighted that tourist numbers have grown since the beginning of winter.
Tourists come to the reserve to observe the rare deer, newly growing rhinos, and migratory birds from countries like Siberia. The reserve is home to 520 bird species.
Recently, the Koshi Province government launched initiatives to attract tourists from neighboring India. A few days ago, the provincial government started a sticker campaign to ensure smooth entry for Indian vehicles and tourists near the Nepal-India border at Koshi Rural Municipality-8, Bhantabari, and to avoid any inconvenience within the province.
