Speaking at a program, speakers said that NTV, as a state-owned television station has a vital responsibility to inform the people from the side of the government and compete with the private television stations for media professionalism.[break]
On the occasion, Minister for Information and Communications Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta said the government would support the NTV if the organization comes up with proposal for timely reforms and changes. Minister Gupta said such proposal was not brought yet though he directed the NTV officials to table some three months ago.
Saying the organization itself should safeguard by giving alternatives, Minister Gupta claimed that the NTV was using only 20 per cent of its human resources.
Gupta said, "Government will not make any political appointment in the public corporations as the government has already constituted a board to make appointment in Public Enterprises (PEs)."
On the occasion, Minister Gupta felicitated different officials of the NTV. Similarly, State Minister for Information and Communications Sunita Kumari Sah provided scholarships to the family members of the officials of the NTV.
Secretary at the Ministry, Shreedhar Gautam, suggested that the NTV should play crucial role to help institutionalize democracy by serving as the voice of voiceless people.
Deputy General Manager of the NTV, Dipak Mani Dhital, said the NTV was broadcasting its services in more than 50 per cent areas of the country through 19 transmission center.
Currently, 15 television stations are operating while 34 others have received license for transmission from the ministry.
