KATHMANDU, July 16: The Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) aligned to the Nepali Congress today organized a march demanding an increment in wages to workers both in formal and informal sectors. The march that originated from Maitighar concluded at New Baneshwor.
"The protest was organized to exert pressure on the authorities concerned to increase the wages of workers who are currently struggling to sustain their families' livelihoods due to inflation," said NTUC General Secretary Ajay Kumar Rai.
NTUC demand minimum wage of workers be determined without delay
"The minimum wage of workers should be increased from the existing Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per month," he said.
The NTUC has submitted a memorandum to the labor minister through the chief district officers of all 77 districts, and to the provincial governments of all seven provinces, demanding an increase in the wages of workers, he said.
In addition to this, the NTUC demands the government form the Labor Commission, ensure the representation of workers in the policy-making and include workers in contribution-based social security schemes.
