KATHMANDU, Nov 8: Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) Chairman Parushottam Khanal has said that problems have arisen in the implementation of the Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) due to middlemen.

Although the NTA was going to implement the MDMS last year, it was stopped on the instructions of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. But the said system has been implemented by the NTA since Monday.

NTA Chairman Khanal said that there was a problem in implementing the system due to the middlemen conducting mobile transactions. He said that the NTA has implemented a system that allows mobile users to use a secure mobile phone and immediately turn it off when it is lost.

He mentioned that the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) will keep records of the mobiles and technology of mobile services in its database, but will not keep records of mobiles that have paid tolls or SMI.

Khanal claimed a system was introduced to guarantee the use of quality mobile phones to consumers.

He said that he believed that the MDMS would help the revenue administration by controlling the black market in mobile phone business. He said that the role of the NTA is only to use the data safely and get it from the database. He added that the Ministry of Finance and the Customs Administration will also work collectively.

He said that when this system is integrated with the customs, not a single illegal mobile phone will be allowed to enter Nepal.
