KATHMANDU, April 23: Even though Nepal Telecom (NT) says problems in balance top-up through recharge cards, seen for the past few months, has been resolved from Wednesday, customers continue to face problem.

On Wednesday, customers could recharge their account only after trying for number of times."The problem with top-up has been solved from today. We have linked all our pre-paid lines with our new Convergent Real Time Billing (CRTB) system from existing Voucher Management System (VOMS)," said Dilli Adhikari, assistant spokesperson of NT, said.

When Republica questioned why some pre-paid numbers are facing problem, he said: "Some pre-paid lines might have been missed while migrating to the new system. It will be resolved by Wednesday evening."

Menuka Shrestha of Sankhuwasabha, who is currently in Kausaltar, took an Ncell number few days ago due to problem seen in balance top-up. "The phone is of no use if I cannot use it when needed. I have been using Ncell number even though it is expensive compared to NT," said Shrestha.

The long-running problem in balance recharge force many customers like Shrestha to look for alternatives. NT officials agree that many customers have switched to other operators due to problem seen in balance recharge.

"The problem was due to network congestion. Now that we have migrated all our pre-paid lines to a new billing system, there is no congestion in the old billing system for the pre-paid users. They can top-up their balance easily," Adhikari said, adding that there might be some problem during peak hours.

PSTN, ADSL NOT WORKING IN BAGBAZAAR

NT's Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and ADSL Internet service in Bagbazaar area has been disturbed for the past four days.

Adhikari said the service has been affected as telecommunication lines in the area have been cut off while digging roads to install water pipeline.

"It will take two to three days to resume the services," said Adhikari.
