KATHMANDU, July 18: Nepal Telecom (NT) has decided to keep Internet prices unchanged.
Though most of the Internet service providers (ISP) decided to levy 13% telecommunications service charge (TSC) on their Internet packages from Wednesday, the state-owned operator has said that it won't levy any additional fees on consumers.
"Though the government has imposed TSC on Internet service, we will absorb the charge and exempt NT Internet users from the increased charge," Pratibha Vaidya, the spokesperson for the Nepal Telecom said.
ISPs started levying 13% TSC on Internet packages form the first day of Fiscal Year 2019/20, blaming the government of not complying with the agreement reached with them in regard to adjusting the TSC. They took the decision to levy 13% TSC on consumers after the government announced the continuation of TSC on Internet service in the budget for FY2019/20 presented on May 29, 2019.
