KATHMANDU, May 18: Nepal Telecom has started providing GSM mobile service in Tso Rolpa of Dolakha from Thursday.
Issuing a statement, the state-owned operator said that it started providing GSM service in the region by installing BTS tower at Beding of Dolakha district.
Beding, which lies in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality, is informally known as the village of Everest climbers. Despite being a popular destination for tourists, the area was lacking telecommunications service.
“The BTS at Beding will benefit a total of 500 residents of 84 households as well as domestic and foreign tourists who travel to the area,” the statement added. “We hope that the telecommunications service will help tourism to flourish in the area.”
Tso Rolpa lies 65 kilometers away from district headquarters Charikot.
NT started providing GSM service in the region as per the government policy of expanding telecommunications service to every nook and corner of the country.
“Even though the cost of installing BTS in rural area is very high, NT is always committed to provide quality service to its customers,” the statement reads.
