KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress´ youth wing Nepal Students´ Union (NSU) on Tuesday afternoon submitted memorandums to all District Administration Offices (DAOs) across the country demanding that the government adjust transport fares in line with reduced fuel prices.

NSU General Secretary Manoj Mani Acharya told myrepublica.com that the memorandums demand that the government ensure 45 percent discount in transport fares for students, and address issues related to higher education.  The union has also objected to recent remarks by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal that the Maoists could take up arms again if needed. Vehicular movement at Thapathali, Putalisadak, Babarmahal and Pulchowk areas were largely paralyzed as the students gathered at Thapathali Engineering Campus marched toward Kathmandu District Administration Office at Babarmahal.

Earlier, the NSU organized a one-hour transport strike in front of all colleges inside the Kathmandu Valley.
