KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal Student Union (NSU), a sister organization of Nepali Congress (NC), has demanded action against those responsible for losing answer sheets of the examination conducted by Tribhuvan University (TU).

Issuing a press statement on Thursday, NSU President Dujang Sherpa also called for transparency in the appointment process for the registrar and rector positions.

Recently, 165 answer sheets for population and health subjects and 176 answer sheets for basic education subjects in the first year of bachelor's level exams conducted in the Nepali month of Baisakh last year were reportedly missing. This incident has led to the suspension of results for other subjects and faculties, sparking protests from various student organizations.

While stating that such instances are regular occurrences within the TU, the NSU has demanded taking action against those responsible. The students’ union has also outlined a list of issues plaguing the examination system, including errors in question paper preparation, questions beyond the course syllabus, repeated publication of previous year's question papers, exchange of answer sheets, negligence in grading, delays in result publication and mark sheet distribution, and providing students with question papers from other subjects already examined.

Expressing concern over the impact on millions of students due to these weaknesses of the TU’s Examination Controller’s Office, the NSU criticized the lack of seriousness from both the examination controller’s office and the university regarding necessary reforms.

The NSU has strongly called for university reforms, an investigation into the incident, and action against the culprits. It has warned of intensifying the protests if these issues are not addressed promptly, holding the university responsible for any escalation resulting from the protest.
