NSJF hands over Rs 1.2m to late Bomjan family

KATHMANDU, June 21: Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) on Saturday handed over Rs 1.2 million to the family of late sports journalist Suman Bhomjan at his hometown in Hetauda, Makawanpur. A team of sports journalists led by NSJF President Ajay Phuyal met late Bhomjan's mother, Bimala Tamang, and father, Surendra Bahadur Bhomjan, and handed over the amount.

Late Bhomjan, a Kathmandu-based sports journalist for Gorkhapatra, died during the earthquake of April 25 in Mahaboudha, Kathmandu.NSJF, the umbrella organization of sports journalists, had collected the amount from various organizations, individuals and its members. International Sports Press Association (AIPS) had contributed around Rs 500,000 (US $ 5000) and National Player's Welfare Fund Rs 100,000, among other donors.

Handing over the check to Bhomjan's family, NSJF President Phuyal expressed commitment to support the family in every possible way in future. "We were deeply shocked by Bhomjan's demise. He was an active member of NSJF and known as friendly person in the sports fraternity. His demise has caused an irreparable loss to sports journalism," said Phuyal.

The Bhomjans house in Hetauda was destroyed in the earthquake. Late Bhomjan was the founder president of NSJF Makwanpur Coordination Committee.
