KATHMANDU, Oct 23: Non Residential Nepalis (NRN) have expressed interest in providing financial support for the construction of a sports complex at the Pokhara Stadium.

“Pokhara has a good potential in sports,” Gurung told media persons last week on his visit to the scenic city to mark the NRN Day, adding, “Pokhara needs a standard sports complex. The District Sports Development Committee (DSDC) must take initiatives for the construction of the complex.”

Gurung said he will help collect funds if the DSDC decides to build a sports complex.

Nepalis living in the UK had collected Rs 4.6 million last year to build a fence around the Pokhara Stadium. The fence was built at the cost of Rs 10 million.

Gurung, who is also the advisor to the Sahara Club, has collected five million rupees for the construction of an academy building for the club. The proceeds is almost double the initial target of Rs 2.9 million.

There are about 100,000 Nepalis residing in the UK. A majority of them are from Kaski district, according to Gurung.
