NRNA-Thailand provides scholarships to 40 students from Gorkha, Dolakha

KATHMANDU, April 20: The Non-Resident Nepali Association of Thailand (NRNA-Thailand) in partnership with Mega Bank Limited has announced to provide scholarships to 40 students in two earthquake-affected districts of Gorkha and Dolakha.

KATHMANDU, April 20: The Non-Resident Nepali Association of Thailand (NRNA-Thailand) in partnership with Mega Bank Limited has announced to provide scholarships to 40 students in two earthquake-affected districts of Gorkha and Dolakha. 


According to a press statement issued by NRNA-Thailand, the scholarships were distributed through Civil Initiative, a local partner, to 10 students each studying at Himalaya Secondary School in Barpak-Sulikot Rural Municipality, Saurpani and Siddharatha secondary schools in Jaubari Rural Municipality in Gorkha district.

In Dolakha, the scholarships will be distributed to the poor and disadvantaged students studying at Nokobhume Secondary School in Kalinchowk Rural Municipality, Babre Secondary School and Kalinag Secondary School in Sunkhani Rural Municipality amidst a function scheduled for April 23. The scholarship provided to students pursuing Grade 9 shall be provided till they complete their grade XII studies. The students are provided with Rs 14,500 each for one academic year to buy school uniform, shoes, bags and stationery.


The scholarship was established in June 2017 at the initiative of then NRNA-Thailand Chairman Khagendra Raj Dhakal with a revolving fund of Rs 3.5 million. Then education minister Gopal Man Shrestha had formally inaugurated the event to announce its launch. The NRNA-Thailand had established the revolving fund through the sale of a book called Everest Base Camp and through various charitable events.


Additionally, Mega Bank has agreed to contribute Rs 300,000 a year for the next five years to the fund to distribute the scholarship to poor and disadvantaged students across Nepal.
