NRB circulates new notes worth Rs 16b

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) -- the central monetary authority of the country -- has brought new notes worth Rs 16 billion into circulation for the Dashain festival as of Monday.



"As per our estimate, new notes worth Rs 20 billion will enter the market by Wendesday," said Ashwini Kumar Thakur, the executive director of NRB. NRB has arranged circulation of new notes through its seven branch offices outside the capital.



"We have provided sufficient amount of new notes to commercials banks as well for the convenience of general public," Thakur added. NRB has been issuing new notes, setting up four counters at its Thapathali office. “We would like to assure people that there won´t be shortage of new notes for the Dashain festival," Thakur added.
