KATHMANDU, April 14: Special peace envoy of the Norwegian government Tore Toreng met Prime Minister Madhav Nepal at the latter´s residence at Baluwatar Wednesday.

During the meeting, Toreng told the prime minister that the international community wished to see completion of Nepal´s peace process at the earliest and requested Nepal to take initiative for this, according to prime minister´s press advisor Bishnu Rijal.

Nepal told Toreng that he is taking initiative in his capacity as prime minister.

"But the government alone cannot take the peace process to its logical conclusion. The Maoists, who are part of the peace process, should also be prepared and responsible for this," the prime minister told him.

Nepal said he was ready to be flexible for taking the peace process to its logical conclusion and drafting a new constitution at the earliest. He also said there was no alternative to consensus among the political parties.

Toreng was working as Norwegian ambassador to Nepal when the peace process first started.
