Nominations of 11 people registered for chairmanship of 10 committees under HoR

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Nominations have been registered for the election to the chairmanship of various 10 thematic committees under the House of Representatives (HoR).

According to the Secretariat of the Federal Parliament, nominations have been registered today from Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janamat Party for the chairmanship of the committees.

A single candidate has been nominated for the chairmanship of nine out of ten committees, while two candidates have been nominated for the chairmanship of the Industry, Commerce, Labor and Consumer Interest Committee.The chairman of the nine thematic committees of the HoR will be elected unanimously.

Santosh Chalise of the Nepali Congress has registered his candidacy for the the chairmanship of the Finance Committee, Raj Kishor Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi as the chairman of the Foreign Relations and Tourism Committee, and Abdul Khan of Janamat and Ganesh Parajuli of the RSP as the chairman of the Industry, Commerce, Labor and Consumer Interest Committee.

Besides, Bimala Subedi of the Maoist Center has been nominated as the chairperson of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, Arju Rana Deuba of the NC as the chairperson of the Agricultural Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee, Kiran Kumar Sah as the chairperson of the Women and Social Affairs Committee and Ram Hari Khatiwada as the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.

Similarly, Deepak Bahadur Singh of RPP has been nominated as the chairman of the Infrastructure Development Committee, Bhanu Bhakta Joshi of the RSP as the chairman of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee and Rishikesh Pokharel of the UML as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, the secretariat said.

Nine months after the election to the HoR, the process of electing the chairs of the parliamentary committee started. The work of the committee could not be effective as the leadership of the parliamentary committees, which are considered as 'mini parliament', could not be selected.

Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey stated that the election program has been published so that a member of the committee can be elected as the chairperson with the support of another member from 11AM to 4PM today. Currently, the meetings of the committees are being held under the chairmanship of the senior member.
