KATHMANDU, Jan 25: Nominations are being registered today in Lumbini province for the by-election of a member of the National Assembly. The voting for the National Assembly member by-election has been scheduled for February 8.
Khim lal Bhattarai (Rupandehi), who became a member of the National Assembly from the CPN-UML, resigned earlier from the post to become a candidate for the House of Representatives (HoR) election. A member of the National Assembly is being elected through the by-election scheduled for February 8 to fill the vacant position.
Stack of bills stalled in National Assembly
Kumar Dasaudi is filing nomination from UML while Nepali Congress (NC) is yet to finalize the candidate.
According to the Province Election Office, Dang, there are 350 voters including members of the Province Assembly and local level chiefs and deputy chiefs. There are 87 voters for the provincial assembly members and 218 voters for the local level.
According to the Election Office, people can file complaints against candidates on January 26 while the EC office scrutinizes the nomination papers and complaints on January 27 and 28. The EC is scheduled to publish the final list of candidates on January 30 and give election symbols to the candidates.
Out of 109 municipalities in the province, NC won 48, UML 27, Maoist Center 25, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) 3 and Rastriya Janamorcha Party and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party each have two each and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and People’s Progressive Party have won one local level each.
Similarly, in the 87-member provincial assembly, UML has won 29 members, NC 27, Maoist Center 10, RPP and Nagarik Unmukti Party four members each. Similarly, JSP, LSP and Janmat Party each have three members and Rastriya Janamorcha and CPN (Unified Socialist) each have one member in the provincial assembly. There are also two independent members in the assembly.
