KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Police have arrested Rabin Sharma chief of Thankot depot of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), suspecting his involvement in black market of petroleum products.

"Police on Sunday arrested NOC's Thankot Depot Chief Rabin Kumar Sharma, suspecting his involvement in irregularities and black market of petroleum products," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sarbendra Khanal, chief of Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), said, adding that Sharma will be interrogated for his involvement in black market of petroleum products.

A team of MPCD arrested Sharma after people detained on charge of fuel black market and tampering of fuel dispensers blamed him during interrogation.

"We arrested Sharma after many persons, whom we had arrested on charge of tampering with fuel meter, pointed fingers toward Sharma during interrogation," added Khanal.

Kathmandu Valley is reeling under fuel shortage due to Tarai unrest and economic blockade imposed by India. Police have found some fuel stations involved in black market of petroleum products, taking benefit of the shortage. Some of them had even been found tempering with fuel meter.
