NOC to take loan from banks for servicing debt

KATHMANDU, Oct. 14: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is planning to take loan from commercial banks for debt servicing.



Talking to the media following discussions at the Office of Prime Minister on Friday on the status of the supply of petroleum products, Minister for Commerce and Supplies Lekhraj Bhatta said the NOC has agreed to take loan of Rs. 1 billion from commercial banks for clearing its dues that stand at Rs. 1.87 billion..[break]



Similarly, the meeting agreed on allowing the private sector to participate in the supply of petroleum products, according to Minister Bhatta.



Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Finance Secretary Krishnahari Baskota and Supply Secretary Purushottam Ojha were also present in the meeting.



The meeting also held discussions on initiating immediate homework for the adjustment of price of petroleum products in line with the price of these products in the international market and to improve the management of NOC, make it more transparent and profit-oriented.



Though representatives of major parties were summoned to the meeting, Nepali Congress was not present at the meeting.
