KATHMANDU, May 26: After the Department of Forests banned logging of timber on May 21, the Federation of Nepal Forest Product Entrepreneurs has said that there is a shortage of woods even for cremation purpose.

The federation also asked the government not to implement the ban all over the country. It argued that such a ban should be imposed only in the areas where logging is going on unabated in illegal ways.

The federation submitted a memorandum to Forest Ministry on Wednesday stating that the ban has created a shortage of wood even for cremation.

Meanwhile, National Vigilance Center (NVC) has said that its investigation has shown attempts were made to transfer 92 bigahs of land in Sunsari in individuals´ names.

An NVC statement issued on Tuesday also said 63 sal trees and three asana trees were cut in Sunwal VDC-5 of Nawalparasi.

It added that in Barakalpur VDC in Kapilvastu, another 199 sal trees were cut and 10,000 hectares of land has been encroached. Similarly, in Dang, the investigation found that 3500 hectares of forest land has been encroached.
