Deepen Chapagain, the CEO of Nepways, said public response was beyond his expectation.
Nepways had launched mobile application called nLocate at the six-day fair, which allows users to find routes and location of banks, hospitals and ATMs, among others, through smartphones. The company also unveiled the website of nLocate on Monday, the last day of the event.
Amit Agrawal, the CEO at Janaki Technology, said the major purpose of taking part in the event was to promote SMS culture in the country. “The response was tremendous, particularly in the final three days,” Agrawal said.
The event also helped the company to increase its Facebook fan base to 100,000. As the event´s official SMS partner, the company provided information on expo, stalls and results of lucky draw through SMS during the exhibition.
Chapagain of Nepways said it was surprising to see large number of people carrying smartphones at the event. “Those carrying normal phones also showed interest in migrating to smartphones to avail nLocate service,” he said, adding, the event showcased deepening IT culture in the country.
“We also found that people from as far as Karnali zone were also using the app to find out more about the event.”
According to the Computer Association Nepal (CAN), 13,321 visitors of the event used nLocate, while over 30,000 visitors from different parts of the country and abroad surfed the fair with the help of the application.
Title sponsor of the event Midas Technologies, which showcased eClass, an interactive teaching material, was also able to grab the attention of thousands of guardians and officials of over 150 schools.
Chhatra Hari Karki, the company´s managing director, said the event allowed them to reach many schools that they had not been able to reach so far. Karki said the major objective behind participation in the event was to make people aware about ICT´s use in education. “We´re happy with the response,” he said.
