NEPALGUNJ, Oct 11: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Monday claimed that consensus government cannot be formed unless the UCPN (Maoist) corrects its conduct.

Coming down heavily on the main opposition, Nepal said the Maoists were creating hurdles in army integration and rehabilitation and budget presentation.[breaek] Speaking at Nepalgunj, he said the UCPN (Maoist) has failed to win the trust of other parties as it has been clamoring for consensus only in words and not in deeds.

“Maoists should prove themselves worthy of trust,” Nepal said, adding, a consensus government will only be formed after the Maoists rise above partisan interest and abandon their desire for “chair”.

Stating that economy of the country will go haywire if budget is not presented by mid-November, Nepal expressed determination that the government will pass the budget at any cost.

“The Maoist obstruction in bringing budget has stalled all development works,” he claimed. “The government will not let the country´s economy to slip into crisis by delaying the budget.”

Saying that UNMIN will wind up after mid-January, Nepal said the process of army integration and rehabilitation must be completed before UNMIN´s term expires.

“Army integration must be completed by mid-January and constitution must be promulgated on May 28 next year,” the prime minister said.

Nepal also expressed his commitment that those involved in the murder the two school students in Nepalgunj a few days ago will be brought to book.

Family of the victims had expressed their concerns with the prime minister that the man behind Kapil´s murder, Meraj Ahemad Sai, was released on bail three years ago following pressure from UML leaders.

“Even UML leaders will not be spared should they try to protect Meraj,” Nepal said.
