NJA receives IJF Outstanding Award

KATHMANDU: International Judo Federation (IJF) has presented Nepal Judo Association (NJA) with the Outstanding Award for running Judo for Peace program in the orphanages and helping in the development and promotion of the game.



According to NJA President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya, IJF President Marious Vizer handed over the award to him on August 23 during IJF´s extraordinary congress held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[break]



 "It´s an achievement for us and it has encouraged us to do better as it recognized our initiatives," said Bajracharya. "We were the only one to receive this award among 135 participating countries." He also informed that NJA will host South Asian Judo Championship in Kathmandu in March, 2014.



Sepak Takraw team selected



KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Sepak Takraw Association announced a seven-member team to participate in the 28th Thai King´s Cup Sepak Takraw Championship to be held in Bangkok from September 16 to 22.



 According to the association´s president, Dhruba Bahadur Gurung, Anil Gurung, Alan Gurung, Prem Bahadur Magar, Aman Pode, Rupesh Sunar, Sujan Dangol and Raju Tamang are the players selected to represent the country at the championship. Ram Bahadur Thapa has been appointed coach of the Nepali side while Netra Prasad Gurung is the team manager.
