Nine Nepalis injured in terrorist attack in Israel, Nepal condemns the attack

KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Nepal has joined the group of nations in condemning Saturday’s terrorist attack in Israel that left several dead and hundreds others including at least nine Nepali nationals injured. Reports said several Nepali nationals working in Israel have been held hostage by the Hamas group that unleashed the attack on Saturday.

Issuing a press statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said Nepal extends its solidarity with the Government of Israel. “The Government of Nepal strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Israel today [Saturday] that caused loss of precious human lives and injured many more. At this critical hour, we convey our solidarity with the Government of Israel,” the MoFA said in the statement.

Nepal has also extended heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the people and the Government of Israel as well as the victims of this cruel attack and their families. “We wish for the speedy recovery of the injured,” it further said.

The MoFA in the statement said that a farm, where 14 Nepalis were working, was also under attack. “Nine of the Nepalis have been reportedly injured while two of them are in serious condition,” it said in the statement, adding that further updates will be made available in due course.

Israeli media, however, have reported that Hamas is holding captive 17 Nepali nationals, while seven others have been injured in the attacks. The MoFA has not confirmed anything about Nepali nationals taken hostage.

According to MoFA, the Embassy of Nepal in Israel is in close communication with the Nepalis living in the areas under attack. The Embassy is also in contact and coordination with the Israeli authorities for the safety, security and rescue of the Nepalis as well as medical treatment of the injured.

The MoFA has also urged Nepali nationals in Israel to remain cautious and follow the safety measures advised by the authorities keeping in view of the evolving security situation.
