KATHMANDU, April 18: Taekwondo player Nima Gurung failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics after facing defeat in the semifinal against Iranian opponent in Manila, Philippines.

However, 12th South Asian Games silver medalist Nima, who competed in the women's 57kg, bagged bronze medal in the qualifying event. The Iranian and Thai players got selected for the Olympics. Nisha Rawal (67 kg and above), Ranjan Shrestha (58 kg) and Bir Bahadur Mahara (68 kg) had also taken part in the selection event.
