KATHMANDU, Aug 23: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the agitating parties to exercise restraint and to carry out their protests peacefully.
The NHRC on Sunday discussed the loss of human lives, damage to public and private properties and human rights violations in the ongoing protests with the leaders of the Madhesi parties' alliance.

NHRC Chairman Anup Raj Sharma has urged the leaders to maintain social harmony and exercise restraint while carrying out their protest activities.
During the discussion, leaders of Madhes-based parties claimed they were protesting peacefully and accused the government of using excessive force.
Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Vice Chairman Hridayesh Tripathi accused the government of using excessive force to supress peaceful protests while Sadbhavana Party Co-Chairman Laxman Lal Karna asked the NHRC to urge the government not to supress the protests.
