KATHMANDU, June 7: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that it would take necessary initiatives for relocating 13 VDCs of Gorkha, which are under serious risk after the devastating earthquake.

As a 20-member delegation from the affected VDCs of upper Gorkha met with the NHRC officials, Chairman Anup Raj Sharma said that the commission would take necessary initiations to relocate the people elsewhere.

According to NHRC spokesperson Mohana Ansari, the delegation requested the commission to take initiatives for relocating 13 VDCs of upper Gorkha that lie along the Manaslu trekking route, including Laprak, Barpak, Gumdi and Samagaun."The delegation has also shown us a 16-year-old report of a study conducted by geologists that suggests that the villages are under serious threat of landslides," said Ansari. "Our own monitoring report also has highlighted the risks. Amid this scenario, the commission assured the delegation that it would take necessary initiatives for relocating the villages," she added.

Ansari also said that the commission would soon discuss the issue with the government officials and geologists before writing a final recommendation to the government.
