KATHMANDU, July 18: The chairperson of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Anup Raj Sharma has urged the government not to abnegate its responsibility towards elderly people.
Speaking at a program organized in the capital on Thursday to discuss the bill on elderly people, Sharma expressed his dissatisfaction with the government’s apathy towards elderly people.

The government is going to enact a law that requires people to be responsible for taking care of their elderly parents.
Reminding the government of the constitutional provision that states that it is incumbent upon the state to take care of elderly people, NHRC chairperson Sharma drew its attention to its constitutional responsibility towards elderly people.
Sharma also called for the formation of a separate constitutional commission entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of elderly people.
