DOLKHA, July 30: Locals of Majhgaun-1 in Dolakha district have finally completed the reconstruction of quake-ravaged building of Majhgaun Lower Secondary School that was destroyed by the devastating earthquake of last year.
Locals had started reconstruction of the quake-resistant school building with the aid provided by the government and a charity organization, Classrooms in the Clouds, which provided financial and technical assistance. In lack of school building, children were forced to study under open sky in the new academic session. Now the school is able to run regular classes in a proper building which has eight classrooms.
However, regular classes have been continuously disturbed either when the zinc sheets became too hot for the students and teachers to bear or when the noise in one class disturbed the other adjacent classes. Likewise, in rainy days, the clattering of rain on the zinc roof didn't allow students to hear anything in the classes.
During the whole reconstruction period, the local community contributed manual labor to dismantle the old building, provided labor support in the reconstruction and provided locally available materials for the building, which covered 20% of the total building cost.
